Purpose of this investigation is to find factors involved when it comes to Integrated Design Process in Australia. Identifying all the factors that might act as barrier to adopt Integrated Design process. Integrated Design process is a fairly new concept and will definitely have multiple challenges. However, familiarity and education are the biggest one of them (Hellmund et al. 2008). The core of investigation revolves around understanding the experience and thoughts of professionals who are part of an Integrated Design Team. Integrated Design Team working collaboratively towards a design problem results in the Integrated Design Process. Semi-structured Interview is used as an approach at getting the qualitative data required for the analysis. Sample group for interview has 2 clients who have initiated the Integrated design process for their particular project, 2 members of Design Review team who act as facilitator for Integrated Design Process and 2 ESD consultants who were hired to be part of the process.Finding of investigation involves perception of process by different players of IDP, emerged themes and some recommendations.

Some Quotes from Interview-

"When you are trying to build a very high-performance building is getting the materials because we just don’t have the number of suppliers out there to provide things like high performance windows. So, that really cause challenge on everybody, until we get sort of volume and the demand in the industry for that sort of product, it is sort of challenge or risk for the project"-Client 1

"I don’t think it was more hours just well-placed hours, having the right conversations, not having to retrofit conversations. I think it’s just the model of how the project is being setup. It’s probably seen as more expensive even if there’s a perception because they don’t necessarily realize how much work they do on fixing design during construction process"-Client 2

"Absolutely without a brief nothing happens, good outcomes don’t just fall out of the project, because everyone is just focused on achieving a client’s objective, being on budget and being on time."-ESD consultant1

"“Unfortunately, I think it’s a product of number of different factors, at the moment the regulations that exist at the council and national level are such that they can be achieved fairly easily by making small changes to existing design. They are not standards that are so rigorous that you as a sustainability are brought in quite at start."-ESD consultant 2

"But I think the biggest thing stopping people is really just cost It’s sad because it doesn’t cost much, if anything extra in many cases has much more sustainability, uses much less energy and is much more comfortable year-round"-DRC 1
