Building 70 of RMIT city campus was used as case study building to recommend sustainable retrofits. Building was analysed for its current energy consumption, thermal comfort and construction.
To find out if the design solutions are actually efficient to achieve savings and make the building sustainable, energy simulation of the building was done using IES VE 2018. Base building was modelled and simulated, results of peak boiler load, peak chiller load and total system energy is considered. The same model is simulated with retrofit solution and simulated again, results of peak boiler load, peak chiller load and total system energy is compared with the base building. Findings achieved are-
After retrofit peak boiler load has decreased by 85%.
However, peak chiller load has decreased by 75%.
Total system energy is 5 times lesser than the current building state.
